The “Dehesa” Centre
The Global Nature Foundation’s co-ordination centre in Extremadura.
From this centre, the Global Nature Foundation co-ordinates the conservation and environmental education projects in Extremadura. It is located in Torrejón El Rubio (Cáceres), a town forming part of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve close to the Monfragüe National Park.
This centre organizes educational hikes through the Monfragüe National Park and the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve, as well as specific workshops and tours of various projects, such as the programme for the recovery of autochthonous breeds (white Cáceres cows, black merino sheep, or Castilian black hens). This programme takes place on the “El Baldío” property, a Mediterranean forest (dehesa) covering 232 hectares located in the municipality of Talaván.
Courses are also available on birdwatching and introduction to ornithology or the identification of amphibians. The centre includes a hostel also called “La Dehesa” with accommodation for 60 people; it offers programmes and activities related to the projects of the Global Nature Foundation in this region.
