Tobacco Innovation Partnership

To improve biodiversity in tobacco farms we developed Good Agri-environmental Practices with farmers from Campo Arañuelo and La Vera regions (Extremadura). We facilitate the creation of a differentiated tobacco production line based on environmental criteria, adding value to these productions by reducing the environmental impact and improving the economic performance of the production (more than 4,000,000 kg of tobacco in more than 1,000 hectares).

We work in actions of:

• Environmental improvement: with innovative agro-environmental practices in soil, biodiversity, water and GHG emissions.
• Assessment: measuring progress on farms.
• Economic improvement: creating differentiation and added value for these productions in the market.
• Transfer to other producers and stakeholders of the methodology

With the development of this Innovation Partnership called TABACO AMBIENTE we respond to the problem of this crop in Extremadura, facing the need to improve its competitiveness and sustainability.

The innovative project "Implementation of environmental parameters to improve the sustainability of tobacco lands" of the Innovation Partnership TOBACCO AMBIENTE is financed within the framework of the Rural Development Program of Extremadura 2014-2020, by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union in 75%, by the Autonomous Community of Extremadura in 21.28%, and by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 3.72%.
