Conservation and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes

On December 17, the journeys on conservation of wetlands and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes organized by the University of León was held online. In these, topics related to the CAP post 2020, the PEPAC 2023-2027 and the conservation and management of wetlands, especially in agricultural areas, were discussed.

Presentation by Eugenio de las Heras of the Fundación Global Nature / LIFE Wetlands4Climate team of the vegetation, soil and water management measures of the working wetlands of the LIFE Wetlands4Climate and LIFE Paludicola projects.

Fundación Global Nature participated here by presenting the wetland conservation and management actions carried out in the LIFE Wetlands4Climate and LIFE Paludicola projects, as well as the recently prepared document on the proposal of agri-environmental measures for the management of vegetation and soils in the Iberian wetlands environment for the PEPAC post 2020. 

During the presentation, the Fundación Global Nature / LIFE Wetlands4Climate team was in charge of presenting the vegetation management, soil management, water regime management, land stewardship, communication and political advocacy actions carried out by LIFE Wetlands4Climate and other projects after 30 years of experience of Fundación Global Nature in the restoration and conservation of wetlands. After this, there was a round of questions with the generation of a debate on the conservation of wetlands in agricultural environments.

Presentation by Celsa Peiteado from WWF about the new Common Agricultural Policy, the European Green Pact and its consequences for the conservation of wetlands and biodiversity in the agricultural landscape.

The space was shared in this event with presentations from other conservation entities such as WWF, research entities such as the National Museum of Natural Sciences-CSIC, the administration such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of Castilla y León, and education and research ones such as the University of Castilla la Mancha or the University of Jaén.
