Tierra de Campos’ Wetlands Allies of the Green Economy

In the heart of Tierra de Campos, an arid steppe landscape, we discover the important role of wetlands. FGN continues the ambitious project initiated in 1998 for the recovery and management of steppe wetlands that were drained in the 1960s: the Boada de Campos Lagoon and the Pedraza de Campos Lagoon.

Continuing this ambitious goal, the restoration process is linked to studies on the environmental and social processes that determine the state of the wetlands.

We will carry out environmental and socio-economic diagnoses of the wetlands, workshops are planned with the local population to inform them about the environmental, social and economic benefits provided by the wetlands.

We will also promote agreements with companies to enhance the value of their products or services by including biodiversity protection criteria in their activities, while strengthening ties with farmers and livestock breeders.

Fundación Global Nature will also continue its conservation and management of the wetlands and their environment thanks to the technical team working in Tierra de Campos. As well as improvements in public use (observatories and routes), environmental awareness-raising work and, transversally, ecological monitoring of the biodiversity of these wetlands.
