we promote ecological infrastructures like hedges and ponds

The food we humans eat every day throughout our lives comes from agricultural biodiversity. Biodiversity is the basis of agriculture and our food systems.

Biodiversity, food and nutrition interact on a number of key issues.  It contributes directly to food security, nutrition and well-being.

Nevertheless, agriculture is one of the major causes of biodiversity loss.  Highly intensive production systems and the exploitation of agricultural land have made agriculture one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss.

We work on the recovery of biodiversity at farm level through good agrarian practices, with special attention to ecological infrastructures and to soil and water management. Recovering soil organic matter is a key step, so we implement green covers, we evaluate how and when effectively fertilize the soil, and we encourage traditional practices such as fallow lands or rotation with legumes.

At a landscape level the maintenance of water elements, the restoration of hedges, and the creation of native flower strips to attract pollinators are some of the measures that deliver tangible results for biodiversity.

We create alliances and promote innovation to ensure conservation and development

Sustainability is a shared responsibility and the conservation of our natural heritage involves finding benefits for all stakeholders living in side by side.

Food & Biodiversity

Biodiversity can be supported by standards, labels and environmental certifications of the Food industry.

Ecological infrastructures

We work with vegetable suppliers of big companies that enter voluntary Biodiversity Improvement Programmes. The improvement measures are described in a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP). The suppliers are assessed annually and new measures are proposed according to the BAP.

We support farmers with new income generation through productive tree planting.

In addition they preserve the local biodiversity by planting autochthonous shrubs species in their private lands.

With the support of Accorhotels and the technical monitoring of Pur Projet, we carry out this type of plantations in the agricultural areas of Valencia and La Mancha. Since 2012, more than 50,000 trees have been planted with the collaboration of farmers.

We promote environmental improvement of tobacco crops keeping competitiveness. The project is located in Campo Arañuelo and La Vera regions (Extremadura).

We create farming areas to act as effective forest firewalls. In these farming areas, we recover local crops under organic management. Additionally it increases the landscape diversity.

We have in our farms merina negra sheep, blanca cacereña cows, and different hen breeds (negra castellana, andaluza azul, castellana codorniz and extremeña).

We own a nursery where we produce species such as sparto grass (Lygeum spartum) or Limonium sp. and other native plant species to develop restoration actions.

An open citizen science project with aims to improve existing knowledge on the status of farmland biodiversit

We recover the native vegetation of the buffer areas around of La Mancha wetlands where we are working for years, especially the flora of the Mediterranean salt steppes.

We work with wine growers to improve the biodiversity in vineyards with proposals of farming measures that positively impact on biodiversity and the competitiveness of the wine sector.

A project at a large scale in Europe to assess the effectiveness of the “Greening” of the CAP.

With this project we face the challenge of turning the Dehesa (agro-sylvo-pastoral farm) into a sustainable agroecosystem through the development and implementation of good management practices
