We want Google to be an ally of wetlands!

in News 10 December, 2021

World Wetlands Day, 2nd of February, is approaching and we want Google to become an ally of nature by dedicating the Doodle of that day to these ecosystems. Aware of the dissemination power of this tool, Fundación Global Nature wants Google to join in the defense of the wetlands, using the image of the 2nd of February to raise awareness of the importance of wetlands. And the more the merrier; in fact, we already have the support of the Living Lakes network, which has 112 partner lakes represented by 130 organisations.

Doodles are the images that appear in Google’s search engine when you search on the Internet. To date, more than 4,000 Doodles on a wide variety of topics have been created in its search engines around the world, reaching millions of people.

Why about wetlands?

Wetlands play an important role on our planet: they maintain biodiversity, help combat climate change and provide freshwater for millions of people around the world. Yet 64% of the world’s wetlands have disappeared in the last century and continue to disappear at a rate three times faster than forests.

We need everyone in the world to understand the importance of these ecosystems and to be aware of the imperative need to care for and restore them, so we urge Google to become an ally of wetlands and dedicate its 2nd  of February Doodle to these ecosystems.
