General information

Since 2009 we develop a pioneer programme to support the production and selling of pulses (lentils and chickpeas) produced under organic schemes and in Natura 2000 sites. This programme is based in a wide Land Stewardship Network strategy, where we involve farmers in nature conservation projects, Biodiversity Action Plans, Sustainable Sourcing Codes, and so on.

Through time we have gradually added to this stewardship network other farmers that work with organic products, such as pistachios, saffron, wheat, barley, and so on.

We promote the consumption of native varieties of legumes as they have numerous environmental and social benefits: conservation of genetic diversity, fixation of nitrogen in soils and supporting species species, being steppe birds a good example. Legumes are a source of locally produced plant protein. They are not only healthy for people but for the planet since they have a better climate footprint than other sources of protein. Pulses allow the recovery of crops that benefit biodiversity, and local economies.

Actions such as packaging, international promotion, training in organic production and marketing campaigns are some of the actions that we have developed.
