Starting with the Parador de Cangas de Onís as a pilot Parador, a methodology has been created and it will be extended to a further twenty hotels of this company to enhance the value of natural heritage.
The experiences created are the result of an alliance between Paradores, local companies and managers of natural and cultural resources, with the aim of promoting sustainable ecotourism. The aim of the programme is to create social, environmental and economic benefits in the areas where Paradores are located, where Nature is the true protagonist.
Paradores is a public company managing 97 hotels and almost half of them are located in historical buildings. Their mission is linked to the conservation of Spanish heritage and historical and artistic heritage is the best known, but it is not the only one: conserving the natural heritage and boosting the local economy of the areas where Paradores are located complete this mission.
From the outset, the experience programme has been conceived as a driving force for the sustainable development of the rural areas in which Paradores operates, specifically in those areas of high natural value, where local agents are the key players. This is how the company becomes a source of initiatives linked to biodiversity conservation.
