The Spanish Ministry of Environment MITECO, within the framework of the Green Infrastructure Strategy of Spain, has initiated a participatory process to draft of a first report to define guidelines and criteria for terrestrial and marine ecological restoration in Spain with the following objectives:
To review the current state of ecological restoration in Spain.
To establish guidelines for the determination of areas to be restored in Spain, taking into account current European regulations.
To lay the foundations for the definition of criteria and guidelines for the elaboration of the National Restoration Plan that will be prepared according to the future EU Nature Restoration Regulation.
The aim of this initiative is to incorporate the Ecological Restoration in policies and plans aimed at addressing the priorities and challenges arising from the degradation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems, the loss of biodiversity, vulnerability to climate change and the maintenance and improvement of people's livelihoods. FGN coordinates one of the working groups, namely the one on financing, costs and investments.
