In the last decade, a major movement has been taking place in Europe and North America aimed at conserving a particularly unprotected environment, the ponds and temporary wetlands ("vernal pools") formed with waters of rains and that may be completely dry for most of the summer and fall.
Numerous research studies agree in the need for more conservation efforts of fairy shrimps (Anostraca) as a flagship group to protect temporary wetlands.
In this proposal, we apply an innovative molecular techniques such Landscape Genetics to understand the dispersal potential of Anostraca populations and the use of environmentalDNA to determine the role of floodplains and their potential as populations’ reservoir under threat factors. In summary, it deals with the use of landscape genetics techniques and environmentalDNA for the conservation of threatened species (Anostraca) of steppe temporary wetlands.
