Preservation of the European pond turtle

The European pond turtle is considered to be a vulnerable specie to a national level, and this is why we take actions for its preservation and its habitat maintenance at El Prat de Cabanes Torreblanca.

We track the specie with traps. We put trap boxes to capture turtles, getting to know thus, their condition. We free them afterwards, and then we capture invasive species, which may threaten European pond turtle’s survival.

In order to do this, we lean on volunteers who have been trained previously to come along with us in this job for 6 months.

We cleanse ditches and plant vegetation in the slopes in order to ameliorate the European pond turtle’s habitat.
