CERTIFIED FOREST MANAGEMENT AND BIODIVERSITY

The municipality of Viveiro and its district (Lugo) has set itself the goal of developing a market that meets the highest environmental and social standards, differentiating the production of the goods that it sells.

Fundación Global Nature contributes to this initiative by analysing the FSC forestry certification of the timber products supplied in the municipality.

Using the Biodiversity Performance Tool (BPT), we study the impact of certified forest management on the biodiversity of the region.

FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits; the generation of a responsible market for forest products seeks to protect the natural, cultural and social values of the territory, while generating sustainable economic activity.
